Gobardanga Hindu College established in November 27,1947 is situated in the heart of the Gobardanga Municipality, One of the oldest Municipality of West Bengal .
The history of establishment of the College goes past in the transition period 1947-48 when a large group of teaching and non-teaching staff of the Doulatpur Hindu Academy (then in east Pakistan) flocked to Gobardanga, chose it to be a seat of higher education and appealed to the local people for help.
In response, people of Gobardanga and its surroundings extended their co-operation, actively and financially. It is for active Co-operation of the people of this locality that the College comes into being with the motto of opening the door of higher education to the common people of the locality. In due course the College got affiliation of the University of Calcutta and the approval of the University Grants Commission under 2f.
At the start,dearth of students and optimum infrastructure were an acute crisis. However,the College soon succeeded in overcoming the problem with thw help of the dynamic leadership of the local organizers and authority of the College. The local LandLords came forward with donation of a vast area of land, and raised funds for the College-building. The College is now in possession of a campusarea of about 12 acres of land which,we are sure, is among the toppers of its class in West Bengal, in this particular aspect.
