Library Work


Practice Teaching Schools & Working Days:
      Nearly 22 Higher Secondary schools are being used for practice teaching every year which are situated in the locality or within a short distance from the school. Out of 110 total working/teaching-learning days at least 40(forty) days are devoted for practice teaching in the above schools every year..

Infrastructure :

     Gobardanga Hindu College, B.Ed. Department has sufficient usable area of land owned by it. The college is located in a non-residential area 500mts.West from Gobardanga railway station. Accommodation provided in the building comprises of 4(four)classrooms and 1(one)room each for activity (geography room), Head of the Department, Faculty, Library, Learning resource centre, Seminar hall, office, store, play ground, indoor game separately for men and women and several laboratories of adequate size furnished with adequate number of furniture's, equipments, books and other learning and play materials. There are Hostels separately each for men and women. Besides, there are facilities for arsenic-free drinking water, electricity and generator, hygienic toilets and two-wheel parking in the building.


Well Equipped Laboratory :

 There are laboratories in the building for B.Ed. Department each for Science(Geography),Psychology, Education Technology, Language and Media well-furnished with equipments, audio-visual aid, computer hardware, software and internet, and other teaching aid.


Subjects:
B.Ed. courses is offered in the Department under the University of Calcutta. So the department is bound to abide by the syllabi and curriculum recommended by the parent university. At present 5(five) method subjects are offered namely Bengali, English, History, Geography and Mathematics in the Department maintaining the rules and regulations laid down by the University of Calcutta and N.C.T.E. Choice of special paper out of a good number of it is open to the students.

Co-curricular Activity:
Co-curricular activities are organized in the Department with free discipline and sheer enthusiasm. Under the guidance of the literary committee one annual magazine named ‘ ‘ and two wall magazines for literature(‘ ‘) and science(‘ ‘) are published every year in which the teaching and non-teaching staffs and the students contribute committee organizes annual functions, debates, seminars, symposiums and other programmes every year. Annual sports of different items like athletics, cricket, football etc. are attened by all the members of the B.Ed. Department with tremendous joy and excitement. In addition, excurtion, picnics, field outreach programmes, N.C.C., N.S.S., local community development programmes, active participation of the students, democratic practice etc. lead to the comprehensive enrichment of the curriculum transaction.


Admission:
B.Ed. course of 1(one) year duration is offered in this Department and the classes start on and from 01 July every year.


Advertisement:
The admission procedure starts with the publication of the advertisement for admission in the B.Ed. course in the leading newspapers tentatively in January-February every year.


Eligibility Criteria:
Eligibility for admission is decided as per norms of N.C.T.E. and the University of Calcutta and hence, it is changeable time to time.
At present, the eligibility criteria is Graduation/Post Graduation with 50% (5% relaxation for reserved categories of West Bengal) having studied any two subjects out of Bengali, English, History, Geography and Mathematics at the Graduation/Post Graduation level.


Form collection and submission:-
Intending eligible candidates (both men and women) have to collect the forms by paying a nominal charge and submit them filled-in properly to the college before a stipulated date.


Screening Procedure:-
Admission is made strictly on merit on the basis of marks obtained in all public examinations including the qualifying examination attended the candidate and an interview/counselling/aptitude test as per the rules and regulations of the University of Calcutta.


Total Intake Capacity and Reservations:-
Total intake capacity in the department is 100(one hundred) students per academic year out of which 95% seats are reserved for other University students. Reservation of seats for S.C./S.T./P.H.etc. is abided by the policy of the West Bengal State Government. Maximum 50% seats are reserved for Deputed candidates and if the seats are not filled-in by the fresher candidates.


Admission and Tuition Fees:-
The tuition and other fees are charged at rates prescribed by the West Bengal State Government/University of Calcutta from time to time. For the academic session 2007-2008, the tuition fees per student is Rs.100/-(Rupees one hundred) only and the total fees for the academic year is Rs.12000/-(Rupees twelve thousand) only payable at the time of admission.
